The brand matters less than the history

"Jet ski", "WaveRunner" and "Sea-Doo" are often used interchangeably, but they're different manufacturers' machines - and all of them can be excellent or terrible used buys. After three decades servicing PWCs in Mallorca, our view is simple: a documented, salt-rinsed, annually serviced machine of any brand beats a neglected one of any other brand. Buy the history, not the badge.

What differs in practice for a used buyer on this island isn't reliability folklore - it's parts and service access. Before buying any used PWC here, ask: who on the island can service it, how quickly can parts arrive, and what does a specialist charge to look at it? A cheap machine with slow parts supply can cost you half a season.

The checks, whatever the badge

  • Hours vs paperwork. Verify hours on the gauge and match them against dated service records. Undocumented machines should be priced as unknowns.
  • Corrosion. Mallorca machines live in salt. Check electrical connectors, battery compartment, linkages and fasteners. A machine flushed after every ride shows it.
  • Hull, pump and impeller. Look for gelcoat repairs, spider cracks, and grinding damage in the pump from ingested debris.
  • Water test. Whatever the brand, it should start eagerly, reach full revs cleanly and hold temperature.
  • Paperwork. Match the hull ID to the documents, confirm no outstanding finance, and remember Spanish regulations generally require a qualification to drive your own PWC - we'll point you to local course providers.

Where we stand - honestly

Nauti Parts is the only authorised Sea-Doo dealer on Mallorca, so our pre-owned stock is overwhelmingly Sea-Doo - dealer-checked machines, often ones we've serviced from new. We won't pretend to stock every brand.

But our service centre at Son Bugadelles works on the machines the island actually rides, across brands - servicing, repairs, winterisation and storage, with island-wide collection and delivery including crane pickup from yachts. So if you're weighing up a used WaveRunner from a private ad against a dealer-checked Sea-Doo from us, you can use us either way: buy ours with an inspection already done, or bring us the other machine for an honest pre-purchase look before money changes hands.

Timing the used market

Stock and prices on the island move with the season. Spring listings are often machines coming out of winter storage - ask what winterisation was actually done. Late-season sales can be genuine bargains from owners leaving the island, but that's also when a tired machine gets moved on quickly, so the inspection matters more, not less. Whatever the month, a machine that's been stored and serviced professionally is the one to shortlist first.

Used versus new - the quick maths

The 2026 Sea-Doo range starts at €11,595 inc IVA for the Spark Trixx, with Santander financing available. If the used machines you're seeing are only modestly cheaper than that once you price in an unknown history, new - or recent dealer-checked pre-owned - is usually the smarter total cost.

Common questions

Is a WaveRunner the same as a jet ski?

Colloquially yes - "jet ski" has become the generic word for a personal watercraft. WaveRunner is Yamaha's product line, Sea-Doo is BRP's. Used-buying checks are identical across them.

Will you inspect a used PWC I found privately?

Talk to our service centre - a pre-purchase inspection by a factory-trained technician is the cheapest insurance in used buying, whatever the brand.

Do you service brands other than Sea-Doo?
