Seeing Mallorca on a jet ski is the fastest way to understand why people fall for this island: cliffs, sea caves and turquoise coves that simply don't exist from the road. You don't need a licence to ride a rental fleet like ours, tours run for complete beginners, and the southwest coast - our home since 1995 - is the best stretch of water to do it on. Here's the full picture.
Rental or guided tour?
The first decision is how you want the water served.
A rental gives you the machine and the freedom. You get a full safety briefing and a riding-zone map, then the hour - or half day, or full day - is yours. It suits confident riders, returners who know the coast, and anyone who wants throttle time rather than sightseeing. Our jet ski rentals run on current-generation Sea-Doos maintained by our own factory-trained service centre.
A guided tour is the better first experience for most visitors. A guide who knows every bay leads the route, sets a pace the group is happy with, and takes you to the swim stops worth stopping for. You still drive your own ski - you just don't have to navigate. Our coastal tours run from about 1.5-2 hours up to half-day adventures, plus fully private tours for couples, birthdays and corporate groups.
Rule of thumb: first time on a ski, or first time in Mallorca - take the tour. Coming back for more - rent.
The southwest coast: Mallorca's best riding water
Experiences live and die on the coastline, and the southwest is the strongest stretch on the island. From our bases at Portals Nous, beside Puerto Portals marina, and Port Adriano, the Philippe Starck-designed marina below El Toro, you're straight onto it:
- El Toro - the headland ride past the marina, with the little island offshore
- Cap de Cala Figuera - the dramatic cape that anchors the classic coastal discovery route
- The coves between - turquoise, cliff-backed and mostly reachable only by water; tours build in swim stops at the best of them
It's also a sheltered, readable coast - good news for newer riders - and the marinas mean you launch from a proper dock, not a crowded swim zone.
When to go: seasons on the water
- Peak (June-September): guaranteed summer, warmest water, the full holiday atmosphere - and the heaviest demand. Book at least 48 hours ahead; the fleet sells out.
- Shoulder (spring and autumn): quieter water, easier bookings, softer light - many regulars' favourite time to ride.
- Winter: this is when owners service, store and winterise. Rentals wind down; the service centre gets busy.
Morning slots generally mean calmer sea; afternoons bring a bit more breeze and chop.
No licence needed - here's how it works
You do not need a licence to ride our rental fleet. Every rental and tour starts the same way: a proper safety briefing, a walk-through of the controls, the riding zone or route explained, life jackets and safety gear fitted. Most first-timers are comfortable within minutes - the modern Sea-Doo is a forgiving machine.
Owning your own ski is a different matter: Spanish regulations require a qualification, and we'll point you to local course providers. Until then, rentals and tours are the zero-paperwork way onto the water.
What to bring
Keep it simple: swimwear (wear it there), sunscreen, a towel, and dry clothes for after. We provide life jackets and all safety gear, and waterproof storage is available for phones. Sunglasses with a strap earn their keep at speed. Leave anything you'd hate to lose on land.
Choosing an operator: the quality markers
Wherever on the island you ride, the same signals separate a great experience from a regrettable one:
- The fleet. Current-generation machines in clean condition point to real maintenance behind the scenes. Ask who services them - the best answer is "we do, in our own workshop."
- The briefing. A genuine safety briefing with a riding-zone map, not a signature and a shove off the dock.
- What's included. Life jackets and safety gear as standard, never an upsell.
- Local knowledge. Guides who ride this exact coast daily, and can read its weather.
- Direct booking. Booking platforms take a cut and add nothing; booking direct usually gets you better answers and flexibility.
- A real base. A physical shop and workshop mean accountability - and somewhere to find them tomorrow.
We'd say this, but the checklist is why people ride with us: only authorised Sea-Doo dealer on the island, official Seabob partner, our own service centre, three decades on this coast.
Beyond the jet ski
Mallorca by water doesn't end at the throttle. A Seabob - the electric water sled that glides above or below the surface at up to 22 km/h - is the perfect second act to a morning ride, and SUPs, water skis and wakeboards round out a full rentals line-up if your group mixes speeds.
Common questions
Can two people share a jet ski?
Yes - most of the fleet takes two riders, and on tours you can swap along the way.
Do I need any experience for a tour?
None. Tours run for all levels; your guide sets the pace and every tour starts with a full briefing.
How far ahead should I book?
In peak season (June to September), at least 48 hours. Online or by phone - the team speaks English, Spanish and German.
Where do experiences depart from?
Our marina shops at Portals Nous and Port Adriano, both in southwest Mallorca, 15-20 minutes' drive from Palma.
