The honest answer: if you'll ride a handful of days a year, rent; if you'll ride most weekends of the season, buy. Renting means zero storage, zero servicing and no licence needed on our fleet. Owning means the machine is always yours, always ready - but it comes with storage, annual servicing and a Spanish qualification to skipper it. The crossover point is about frequency, not wealth.

We're in the unusual position of doing both - we rent Sea-Doos from Portals Nous and Port Adriano, and we sell them new and pre-owned. So we have no incentive to push you either way, and this is the framework we walk every customer through.

The four questions that decide it

1. How many days a year will you actually ride?

Not the fantasy number - the real one, after work, weather and the rest of life. Renting costs you per outing and nothing in between. Ownership costs the same whether the machine sits in storage or runs every weekend, so every extra day on the water makes ownership better value. Occasional riders almost always come out ahead renting; residents and every-weekend summer visitors almost always come out ahead owning. If you're between the two, rent for a season and count your outings - the data answers the question for you.

2. Where will it live?

A jet ski on Mallorca needs a home: a trailer and somewhere to park it, a marina berth, or professional dry storage. Our storage service at Son Bugadelles exists precisely because this is the part first-time buyers forget to plan. Renters skip the question entirely - the machine is waiting at the dock when you arrive and someone else's problem when you leave.

3. Who maintains it?

Salt water is relentless. An owned machine needs freshwater flushing after rides, annual servicing, winterisation at the end of the season and the odd wear item along the way. None of it is difficult to arrange - our factory-trained Service Centre handles all of it, with island-wide collection and delivery - but it's a real, recurring commitment of money and admin that renters never see.

4. Licence

This is the quiet decider for many visitors. Renting from our fleet requires no licence - a safety briefing is included and you're on the water in minutes. Owning and skippering your own watercraft in Spain requires a nautical qualification; the exact requirements depend on the craft and where you ride. It's very achievable - courses run on the island and we'll happily point you to providers - but it's a step, and if you only ride two weeks a year it may be a step you'd rather skip.

The middle path: pre-owned first, trade up later

Plenty of our owners started with a dealer-checked pre-owned Sea-Doo - a lower entry price on a machine we've been through ourselves - rode it for a season or two, then traded up to the new model they really wanted once they knew how they used it. Stock rotates constantly, and financing via Santander is available on both new and pre-owned, which lets you match the outlay to your actual riding rather than your optimism.

Our recommendation

  • Visiting for a week or two a year? Rent, every time. No licence, no storage, no servicing - just the fun part. Add a guided coastal tour and you'll see more of the island than most owners do.
  • On Mallorca all season, itching to ride most weekends? Buy - the always-ready machine changes your relationship with the sea, and the per-day maths swings your way fast.
  • Not sure? Rent for one season and keep count. Then come and see us; we'll do the honest sums with you, model by model, from the current line-up.

Common questions

Do I need a licence to rent a jet ski in Mallorca?

Not from our fleet - a full safety briefing is included and no licence is required.

What does owning a jet ski cost per year?

It depends on the model, where it lives and how you use it, so we won't invent a number here. Ask us for a realistic annual picture for the specific model you're considering - storage, servicing and winterisation included.

Is a pre-owned Sea-Doo a safe buy?

From a dealer, yes - every pre-owned machine we sell is checked by our own factory-trained technicians before it's offered. That's the difference between dealer stock and a private listing.
