A Seabob is a handheld electric watercraft that pulls you through the water - over the surface like a mini speedboat, or beneath it like a dolphin. You hold the grips, squeeze the trigger and its electric jet drive does the rest; steering is simply shifting your body weight. It's the signature luxury water toy of the Mediterranean, and the fastest models are rated at up to 22 km/h.

Nauti Parts is the official Seabob sales and service partner for the Balearics, so this is a machine we know inside out. Here's everything people ask us across the counter.

How a Seabob works

What Is a Seabob? The Underwater Water Toy Explained

Under the sculpted shell is an E-Jet Power System - a battery-powered electric jet drive that produces smooth, silent thrust with no propeller blades exposed. You grip the handles, control your speed with a trigger, and select from several power levels so the same machine can amble along gently with a nervous first-timer or surge ahead with a confident one.

The magic is that it's directional in three dimensions. Angle the nose down and the Seabob takes you under - carving, banking and rolling through the blue with your mask on. Angle up and you're back on the surface. There's no learning curve worth mentioning: virtually everyone is comfortably riding within their first minutes, which is why it's the one water toy that works for an entire family or charter party.

How fast is a Seabob?

Quicker than it sounds. The sportiest models in the range are rated at up to 22 km/h - and because your body is in the water rather than on a seat above it, it feels dramatically faster. Underwater speeds are slightly lower than surface speeds, and every model's power levels let you dial the experience anywhere from gentle glide to full send.

How deep can it go?

Current models have an electronic safety cut-off at shallow depth - 3 metres on the F9 series - which keeps casual riders comfortably near the surface. For trained users, the maximum can be adjusted via the electronic controls, with the F9 rated to 30 metres. In practice, most riders spend their time in the top few sparkling metres, where Mallorca's water is at its most beautiful anyway.

The current range

The line-up runs from the F5 series to the newer, lighter F9 series. The Seabob F9 weighs just over 20 kg - light enough for one person to handle at the swim platform - runs 40-60 minutes per charge depending on battery option, and fast-charges in around an hour. The F9 is priced at €11,125 (IVA inc), with the sportier F9 S from €15,375 (IVA inc). Six colours, from Carex Yellow to Meteo Silver, plus accessories like fast chargers, covers, bags and lifting docks.

Its combination of low weight, quick charging and instant usability is why the Seabob has become standard equipment on charter yachts - and why it anchors our superyacht water toy programme.

Do you need a licence?

No. A Seabob requires no licence or qualification anywhere it's used recreationally - it's swimmer-powered fun with an electric assist, not a registered watercraft. Kids, grandparents, non-swimmers holding on in the shallows with supervision: everyone rides.

Try one before you buy one

The grin is not explainable in text. Rent a Seabob from us at Portals Nous or Port Adriano and give it half an hour - that's typically all it takes for the purchase conversation to start. When it does, our showroom and Service Centre at Son Bugadelles handle everything from sales to servicing, spares and winter care, island-wide.
